How to find out about your team: Use result tables (if all round robin games are complete) to determine your team's final pool placing. Then use the crossover diagrams for your division in the draw to see what duties and games you have next up.

What is Flaming Chalice?

Dragons Volleyball Association runs the Flaming Chalice Volleyball Tournament each year on the Labour Day long weekend (first weekend in May).

This event has been running every year since 1991. Flaming Chalice is the largest association-run tournament in Queensland attracting teams from as far afield as Townsville, Dalby and Sydney, as well as Queensland Representative Teams and occasionally international teams.

This year we are expecting more than 100 teams spread across 15 divisions!

Dates:

Saturday 3rd to Monday 5th May 2025

Venues:

  • The Gap SHS
  • Ferny Grove SHS
  • The Sports Centre at the Boondall Entertainment Centre

Costs:

Open divisions$510/team | School-aged divisions:  $480/team

Early bird discount: $30/team discount if nominated and paid by the early bird closing time.

Nomination Info

Dragons members will receive a link to register individually by email a few weeks out from the tournament. The registration links on this page are not intended for Dragons members.

Open-Aged Men and Women:
Open Aged Men: Premier, Challenger, Div 1, Div 2 & Div 3
Open Aged Women: Premier, Challenger, Div 1 & Div 2
Mixed teams may compete in all men's divisions except Premier.


School-aged Boys and Girls:
Seniors (Under 19 - born 2007 and younger)
Intermediate (Under 17 - born 2009 and younger)
Junior (Under 15 - born 2011 and younger)

Dragons are willing to consider age exemptions for school teams which are predominantly of the right age. Please get in touch well in advance to ensure no problems at the tournament.

Refunds will be provided for withdrawals under the following conditions:

Before 4pm on Friday 18 April Full Refund
Before 4pm on Tuesday 22 April 50% Refund
After 4pm on Tuesday 22 April No Refund

We would like your team to make an effort to be available for the whole weekend, but if that is not possible please indicate on your nomination form (under Draw considerations) if there are times your team cannot play (eg. Friday night, Monday afternoon). Brisbane teams are generally expected to play as scheduled.

  • While school-aged teams will play throughout the weekend, we will attempt to leave a block of time available for rest, study etc.
  • Dragons will do everything reasonably possible in relation to draw consideration requests but cannot make any guarantees.
  • Please consider whether your draw request is essential or just desirable. If it is essential and we can't meet your request during the draw construction, we will withdraw your team, notify you and provide you with a refund. If it is desirable and we can't meet your request, we will expect you to meet your commitments.
  • Adjustments to the draw to fulfil your requests often come with a consequence by necessity. For example if you ask to finish early on one day, you might have a really long day on another.
  • By nominating you acknowledge that there will be promotional photographs taken at the tournament for use on our website and social media, and that all relevant approvals for any participants under 18 have been provided to your club/association/school.
