Format Changes
-
Jon is driving the whole trip this time because Boris can't get time off work.
We've managed to get two womens teams and two mens teams again this year.
Once more we won't fit in one minibus;
Dave has agreed to bring the 'Dragon-Wagon' this year.
In an effort to leave on time for once the TPC has organised to pick up the bus and
trailer the night before we leave. Budget's emphatic, 'yes, it's a big trailer', turns
out to be a shoebox with wheels...no way can we fit the luggage of 22 people in that so
Boris spends half the night searching for a bigger one followed by the obligatory
changing of the bulbs and locating a working cable.
-
Tuesday
-
The morning departure goes off without a hitch for the first time ever, (and to think I
said foresight and planning would never catch on).
Some things don't change however and we're going to Coff's Harbour again.
New South Wales forgot to put up a road sign, "Roadworks, next 1000km".
The trailer doors open on the road and a quick search tells us nothing was lost, we
re-engineer the trailer lock with a small red hammer.
The host club puts on a sausage sizzle for us after the games.
-
Wednesday
-
A mammoth trip to Katoomba in the Blue Mountains, fortunately we're not playing
there. The trip through Sydney turns scenic after a wrong turn and we get
to drive around
the semi-built Homebush Stadium before joining the peak hour traffic heading
west. That night we head to town for dinner then take floodlit walks around
the scenic rim
before finally determining that it takes nine Dragons to fill a telephone box.
-
Thursday
-
We're off to Wollongong to play Illawarra.
The trip takes us through some of the the bushfire ravaged country but there's no
shortage of water at the caravan park as we have a huge water fight. Michael Conlon
falls asleep on the beach and becomes very red.
-
Friday
-
Off to Canberra and we're back in the Canberra Motor Village.
We're met by our missing team members who were unable to attend the complete tour.
Games at AIS that night and a late dinner.
-
Saturday-Sunday
-
The Honours Men suffer with injuries and end up 10th as do the Div 2 men, the women
uphold our honour though with the Div 1 women narrowly missing gold and coming 2nd
and the Div 3 Women easily taking 3rd.
After the games we head for Cowra, Jon notes the impressive new bypass around Yass on the
highway and continues along for 5 minutes before becoming nervous and turning around
to head through Yass...of course, he was on the right road in the first place (but we
all enjoy U-Turns, right?)
Sunday Night at Cowra and we have counter meals before opening the 'Secret Santa'
presents.
-
Monday
-
A long drive to Moree, Jon takes us through Parkes, (not game to do another U-Turn?),
and the trailer doors open again. Nothing appears to be lost so we press on.
In Moree, Nghi finds he has lost a bag and eventually we realise it must have fallen out,
A call to the Parkes police is rewarded though, some kind soul has handed it in and it's
being sent to Brisbane COD.
Finally there's time to take a dip in the spa baths.
We descend on the local chinese restaurant for dinner and sit up half the night talking to the motel owner.

Tuesday
-
Back to Brisbane and it's all over for another year. We manage to arrive in daylight for
a change.
Some pictures to follow once I've scanned them in
Cabarita Beach to pick up Robyn on Tuesday morning
Echo Point at Katoomba
Shelley and Jon ambush Emily with waterbombs
Division 1 women on court
